Children's privacy The document concerning children's privacy is still in draft form, and will not yet be made available to the public as the issue is still being discussed. Meetings on this topic are set to be held during the course of May. If all goes to plan, the final draft document might be adopted at the next Plenary in June (19-20th). If so, the document will then be made public and uploaded onto the website. EFAMRO will keep you posted of further developments. Definition of personal data: In order to rectify a recent trend of divergence in the interpretation of the Data Protection Directive regarding the definition of the term "personal data", the Working Party has dedicated a considerable amount of time and effort into drawing up a detailed report on the concept of personal data. The Working Party considers a uniform interpretation of the Directive in general, and this provision in particular, to be of the utmost importance in enforcing proper implementation of the Data Protection Directive, and will adopt a respective opinion on this subject in due course. EFAMRO also will keep you posted on this issue. top - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - * Full speed ahead for ISO 20252 in the Netherlands April 24th was an important day for the market research profession in the Netherlands, and for the 18 fortunate agencies which were among the first in the world to be awarded the ISO 20252 standard. Until recently, the Dutch industry association worked with two separate certifications, namely its own hallmark and an ISO 9001 certificate. This proved to be a rather awkward situation, which is why the new ISO 20252 standard was a good incentive for Dutch certification agencies to be able to integrate and keep control of both certifications themselves. The ISO 20252 certification is tailored specifically for the market research sector, with attention to both procedure and content. It is a veritable milestone for both the Research Hallmark Group, and in no lesser degree for the Certification Audit Committee, under the ardent guidance of Ed van Eunen, who have managed to bring about the certification of the first agencies. Eventually, all Research Hallmark agencies will adhere to the ISO 20252 standard, with this ISO number forming the proud ensign of the Group. The certificates were awarded by Frits Spangenberg, the international President of ESOMAR. EFAMRO will keep you posted on further developments as and when we learn about them, and would ask you to please inform us of any news you may have in that area. ![]() top - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - * ISO Standard on Access Panels - All systems go The fourth meeting of EFAMRO's Working Group 2 ("Access Panels") within ISO Technical Committee 225 ("Market, opinion, and social research") was held in Tokyo this year from April 16-17th. At the meeting, participants agreed unanimously that the working document they completed would be submitted to the ISO TC225 Secretariat as a so-called committee draft. At that stage, the document will be distributed by the TC225 Secretariat in order to solicit comments from national experts. These comments will be compiled and considered at the next meeting scheduled for September 2007 in Berlin. The plan is to finalize the so-called draft international standard meant for additional final comments from within the research community. top - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - * Invitation to the second ISO 20252 clinic at the Annual ESOMAR Congress in Berlin On September 16th, at the Annual ESOMAR Conference in Berlin, an EFAMRO/ESOMAR Session will be held on ISO 20252. This session is a follow-up to the ISO 20252 meeting which took place at the annual ESOMAR congress in London in 2006. EFAMRO is now focusing on implementation, which is an interesting development for all associations involved. For some organizations, participation will provide food for thought, for others, it will render essential information which will be helpful in startup situations. Attending will be various speakers from Japan, South Africa, Mexico, the Netherlands, and the UK, who will speak on matters such as resistance to the introduction of ISO 20252. A number of issues which will be dealt with include:
