Codes of conduct and practice provide the ethical basis of research. Since the 1940's protect the rights of respondents, and maintained the integrity and professionalism of the sector.
Following the adoption of Convention 108 and Directives 95/46/EC and 2002/58/EC, many of the smae principles were passed into law. This legislation provide the legal basis for modern research practice.
Compliance with these ethical and legal standards is supported by process standards. The international standard for market opinion and social research , ISO 20252, and the international standard for access panels, ISO 26362, set the best practice standards for research data collection.
