In
July this year the European Commission announced an open consultation
on data protection, or more specifically, the legal framework for the
fundamental right to protection of personal data. The Data Protection
Directive has a wide ranging impact on market, social and opinion
research in the EU.
The
Commission
invited responses to be submitted by 31 December 2009 to the following questions:
-
Please
give us your views on the new challenges for personal data protection,
in particular in the light of new technologies and globalisation
-
In your views, does the current legal framework meet these challenges?
-
What future action would be needed to address the identified challenges?
efamro and
ESOMAR have now completed a joint draft response on behalf of the
research sector. We believe that a unified response on behalf of the
sector is the most effective way to represent all our interests and
this approach has proved very successful in the past.
efamro invites
the views of interested parties on this document. We would be very
pleased if you could let us have any comments, noting that we need to
receive your feedback no later than 11 December 2009. Please send your comments to info@efamro.eu.
The document is available from the Public Affairs section of the efamro website www.efamro.eu
